04/ Funding
The Football Foundation is the principal provider of funds to disability football in the UK, with a £60 million budget sourced from the Premier League (5% of its TV money), matched by The FA and topped up by the Government through Sport England and the New Opportunities Fund. Set up in 2000, what is now the UK's largest sports charity contributes at a grassroots level by supporting the creation of new accessible facilities and contributing to equipment and travel costs. The Foundation's Simon Taylor says: "We've spent £75 million to date on community programmes. Every changing room we build, every pitch we build, has to be accessible for disabled footballers. On top of that we fund specialist coaching programmes; for example, we just gave £158,000 to establish a disabled football development programme within both mainstream and special schools, providing coaching and introductory 'taster' sessions for budding young players throughout Leicestershire and Rutland.
We also receive income from local sports clubs and groups who hire our facilities.
